One batch of 19 come from the Shenshuping breeding centre in the Wolong National Nature Reserve, where keepers took them out for their big debut.

On the same day, 17 other cubs were shown to the public in the city of Ya'an, at the Bifengxia breeding centre. The video above shows both batches.

The youngest of the cubs is only a month old, and the eldest is about five months old, the facility said in a statement to the press.

The 36 are part of a record 42 pandas that have been born to the breeding programme in 2017, which includes 15 pairs of twins.

After decades of conservation work, the giant panda was moved off the endangered list, and reclassified as "vulnerable" last year in September -- meaning they are less likely to go extinct.

The IUCN's decision came because it said the giant panda population rose by 17 percent between 2004 and 2014. Roughly 2,060 giant pandas exist today, it reported.
